Dr. Taormina’s Mission Statement for Holistic Animal Health
Just like us, our pets’ overall health is directly related to a healthy lifestyle. A diet of minimally processed food, lots of fresh air and sunshine, and staying active are invaluable. Also vital to our pets’ health is trying to get to the root cause of a disease process to help their bodies heal as completely as possible for as long as possible. This should give our furry friends the opportunity to live longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives.
Some integrative services and recommendations we will have at AMC in the upcoming year:
-
Transitioning pets to a fresh food diet or a diet that is as minimally processed as possible. We also offer referrals to a local pet nutritionist to help our clients find a way to provide healthy meal options for their pets based on their lifestyle.
-
Microbiome testing. The microbiome is a population of microbes that live in the gastrointestinal tract. It interacts with several organ systems. When it comes to our pets we can see these imbalances come out as gastrointestinal and skin issues. Pets with inflammatory bowel disease or even gastrointestinal lymphoma may also benefit from rebalancing the microbiome. A properly balanced microbiome will also enhance the immune system. .
-
Advanced health screening for essential nutrients, glyphosate, inflammation, early cancer markers, early detection of osteoarthritis, gastrointestinal diseases, and
-
Titer testing as an alternative to vaccination. These are blood tests that quantify the antibodies for the diseases found in our core vaccines for canines and felines. If you are weary about vaccination, we can easily draw blood and see if your pet actually needs the vaccine, or if we can delay vaccination another year.
-
Therapeutic laser. Therapeutic laser or “cold laser” as it is sometimes called, uses light energy to stimulate cell repair. It can modulate inflammation at the source of the issue, and encourage the body to heal itself as much as it can. This is useful for inflammatory skin conditions, arthritis/chronic pain, acute orthopedic injuries, or cats with oral stomatitis.
-
Homeopathic medicine. Homeopathy is a proven branch of western medicine that is based on the concept of “like cures like”. It uses natural substances that mimic the symptoms of the disease in a healthy pet and work by gently encouraging the body to heal itself. These medicines can be used in place of pharmaceuticals in both acute and chronic illnesses. They can also be prescribed long term to work towards a curative state in cases of chronic diseases including but not limited to gastrointestinal and skin disease, autoimmune disease, etc. They may also work to improve quality of life in hospice patients and cancer patients
-
Reiki. Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that channels energy to promote balance and harmony within the mind, body, and spirit. This type of adjunctive therapy is great for any ailment including, but not limited to arthritis/pain management, acute illnesses, anxiety, and trauma.
